I don’t know about you, but I am ready for fall to arrive! One major reason is that I’m excited to wear some of the cozy and cute fashions on trend for Fall 2016. As buyers for the Pottery World Boutique, we always look for unique pieces to bring into the boutique and also take note of what looks are trending for the season.
One rule we believe in is that it’s not necessary to buy an entirely new wardrobe every season to still look current. By combining well-made staples that can last for years with a few new pieces in a current cut or print, you can create the perfect outfit for the football game, a trip to Apple Hill, or some other fun fall outing with friends and family.
Here are some key pieces from the Pottery World Boutique to incorporate into your wardrobe for a chic fall look. Now if only the weather would cooperate!
(All of the items in bold are available at either our Rocklin or El Dorado Hills store).
Ponchos and Wraps
Oversized wraps and ponchos were definitely the star of the retail trade show in Las Vegas, where we select a lot of items for the boutique. From luxe, faux fur-trimmed wraps to ponchos that buckle, the Pottery World Boutique has a wide selection of cold weather wear. Whether your wardrobe calls for casual or more formal looks, we carry all kinds of styles for the events this time of year brings.
Living in California with our mild winters, you don’t always need a coat. A poncho is a great go-to piece to layer over a long sleeve shirt for added warmth without the bulk of a coat. You can style it to be cute and casual, or as a more formal choice to top your holiday party outfit. If you’re petite and worry that you might be swallowed up in an oversized garment, try belting the poncho or wrap to contain some of the volume of the material and define your shape. I put Jen, one of our sales associates, in a charcoal faux-fur trimmed knit poncho by M. Rena over the black leggings and riding boots she was already wearing. This zip-front poncho has pockets, side vents and a detachable fur trim on the hood. It looks great on her!
Aztec/Tribal inspired prints
These bold, earthy prints are perfect for fall, especially on a warm poncho or long sweater. Stick to low-key basics in neutral colors for the rest of your outfit and let the print take center stage. Pair these items with combat, moto, or riding boots to accentuate the rustic vibe like I did here with Jen, who is wearing this fringed blanket poncho from Azziza with her own brown, lug sole boots. We kept it casual by pairing it with jeans, and also added a belt to show an optional way to wear this versatile poncho.
Here’s Jen wearing a Tribal print fringed vest by Elietian Luxury Wraps in a deep wine color. This is a really versatile piece that can be worn a number of ways, including off the shoulders and also as a hood. The vest styling offers warmth to the core but leaves the arms free, perfect for this California weather that can’t make up its mind!
Preppy Plaids and Dots
A classic look for colder weather is bringing in plaids, stripes and polka dots in reds, blacks and whites. We love this layered look by Ampersand Avenue with their Sweetheart sweater with the Lumberjack shirt in a soft flannel with a fun contrast cuff, topped with their Harvard vest in black. Mixing patterns is big in fashion right now, so go ahead and combine a floral print or stripe with a bright plaid for an updated look of a well-established classic.
A denim shirtdress is a great option for fall and Pottery World offers two great options from Kut from the Kloth. Here Jen wears the lighter denim shirtdress with Western detailing on the pockets. When paired with a patterned scarf, tall boots and a clutch wallet in a deep raspberry color by Hobo, it’s a perfect outfit for meeting friends for lunch. We also have a dark denim shirtdress in a heavier denim with a little stretch. Either piece would be strong wardrobe additions this fall and beyond.
No fall look is complete without the perfect accessories. Long necklaces are always a good choice, as they add the illusion of length to your frame. Tassels were big in the spring but we are still seeing them for fall and holiday, here with a little added bling. These beaded tassel necklaces are great with a turtleneck or simple top under a long cardigan. The long wrap Jen is wearing is a fringed cardigan by Truehitt and her bracelet is by Good Works Make a Difference.
Boot socks have been on the scene for a while now, but they are still a fashionable and practical addition to your wardrobe. Designed to peek out the top of a boot, these “socks” add a layered look without the bulk. Worn with tall or short boots, they soften the look of the boot and add an element of style as well as function. These also make wonderful gifts.
